Accelerating Innovation in AI

Through courses in Computer Science and Technology Entrepreneurship, weʼll teach you to build systems leveraging foundational models and generative AI; design products with user-centered machine learning principles; and commercialize these products through customer discovery and business modeling.

Apply for Accelerating Innovation in AI

  • This certificate can be completed in as little as two semesters and is available to graduate students in any program.
  • Applicants must have:
    • A background in elementary data structures (lists, stacks, queues and trees) and their implementation using an object-oriented programming language; probability theory and statistics with applications to computer science; and a basic understanding of interface design, implementation and evaluation. These requirements are fulfilled by having taken CS 225 and CS 361, or equivalent courses in these topics.
    • Experience in user interface design. This requirement can be fulfilled by meeting one of these criteria:
      • Taking or having taken CS 409
      • Taking or having taken DTX 495 UX (applicants without a programming background)
      • Demonstrating an understanding of interface design, implementation and evaluation

Required:

TE 598 PMR - Foundations of High-Impact Innovation (fall) 2 credit hours
CS 568 - User Centered Machine Learning (spring) 4 credit hours

Choose 1 of the following:

TE 461 - Technology Entrepreneurship 3  credit hours
TE 401 - Developing Breakthrough Projects 3  credit hours
TE 598 - Accelerating Deep Tech Enterprises (req. instructor approval) 3  credit hours

Business Management for Engineers

The Business Management for Engineers graduate certificate is designed for students with an engineering or technology background who aspire to rise in management, make higher level strategic business decisions and hone leadership skills. This certificate provides students with the tools necessary to propose and manage initiatives and evaluate technology innovation from a business standpoint. These courses are applicable to students who are or want to be entrepreneurial in starting a company, working for a startup or bringing business management skills into their career at an existing company.

Apply for Business Management for Engineers

  • This certificate can be completed in as little as two semesters and is available to graduate students in any program.
  • Students must earn a B- or better in the courses that make up the certificate program to qualify for the certificate.
  • Courses may not be applied towards multiple Landuyt Center certificates.
  • Students must apply before the beginning of the final semester of the graduating year.

Required:

TE 460 - Lectures in Engineering Entrepreneurship 1 credit hour
TE 565 - Technology Innovation and Strategy 2 credit hours
TE 567 - Venture Funded Startups 1 credit hour

At least 2 credit hours of elective courses/activities from the following:

TE 401 - Developing Breakthrough Projects 2  credit hours
TE 450 - Startups: Incorporation, Funding, Contracts, and Intellectual Property 3  credit hours
TE 466 - High Venture Marketing 2 credit hours
TE 566 - Finance for Engineering Management 2 credit hours
Attend the Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Workshop 
(with one page essay submitted; credit given for this certificate only)
1 credit hour

Strategic Technology Management

The Strategic Technology Management certificate is for graduate students with an engineering background who aspire to lead a venture, make higher level strategic technology and business decisions, and develop leadership skills. This certificate teaches students to incubate new ventures, and participate in the process of innovation and market adoption within corporate environments. These courses are applicable to students who are or want to be entrepreneurial in starting a company, working for a startup, or bringing strategic technology management skills into their career at an existing company.

  • This certificate can be completed in as little as two semesters and is available to graduate students in any program.
  • Students must earn a B- or better in the courses that make up the certificate program to qualify for the certificate.
